A sincere attempt is being made with this new series by our website, to now acquaint our readers with the lives of the Orthodox Saints and Martyrs of the original One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church of our Lord, who, like some of the Orthodox Saints of the British Isles, lived and propagated the Faith in the Western territories of the European Continent during the first millennium of Christianity and prior to the Great Schism of 1054 AD.

Saint Livinus, son of a Scottish nobleman and an Irish princess, was raised in Ireland, his mother's country.

He studied there, and then in England, being ordained by none other than St. Augustine of Canterbury, apostle of the English.

He  went with three disciples to Flanders and was successful in preaching Christ there, but enraged pagans tore out his tongue to prevent his holy preaching.

Unfazed, the Saint continued to preach and exhort, being finally put to death for our Saviour's sake near Alost in Belgium.
